Education Week: Heathdale begins new chapter

With more than 36 years’ experience guiding students through the secondary years in Werribee, Heathdale Christian College is about to start the journey all over again.

Next year, the college’s Melton campus will be launching its secondary school, with its first year 7 class. Melton principal Yvonne Harvey says Heathdale has been growing its primary school during the past five years, on the redeveloped site where Mowbray College once stood.

“Heathdale’s move into secondary education was deliberately planned to roll out once the primary school was well established. For Heathdale, that meant ensuring its culture of helping students discover their God-given potential ran strong at Melton,” Ms Harvey says.

“We really want it to be the school of choice in the west, an aspirational place for students wanting a great education and to be fully equipped for the next stage in their life.

“It’s an exciting time as the staff prepare the way for year 7. A new STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics]centre will help students combine these disciplines to find community and global solutions to current issues.

“We’ll be providing college-owned one-to-one devices to enhance secondary student in-class learning, and rolling out an immersive French program, as well as short courses in the performing and visual arts to complement the school’s strong focus on the core subjects of maths, English and science.

“There’s plenty of depth in our learning programs that excite, challenge and enrich our students’ lives. At the core of all these initiatives, and what really makes them valuable, is our staff. They’re people who see students as individual gifts from God; young lives that have emotional, social, physical, intellectual, and spiritual needs.

“Everything about Heathdale speaks of our desire to cater to the whole child, not only their academics.” For 2020 year 7 enrolment inquiries, call 9974 4801 or visit the website for an application pack or to book a tour.
