Dozens of colourful quilt samples produced by Melton and Swiss women will be displayed as part of a biennial quilting exhibition.

Melton-based Willows Quilting Group partnered with Swiss group Quiltgruppe Mönchaltorf several years ago to meet like-minded people around the world and challenge each other.

Maureen Mohr, a co-ordinator of the Willows Quilting Group, recalls that when she found the Swiss quilters online she was extremely nervous.

They were far more advanced and their styles very different, she said. But the Melton group has come a long way, Ms Mohr says. “It’s a little bit of a challenge to our group, but it’s a way for us just to speak to someone on the other side of the world.

“Their likes and their way of quilting was different to ours,” she says. “They’re into arty quilts whereas we were quite traditional.”

The A4-size quilt samples will be displayed at St Catherine’s Hall, Bulmans Road, Melton South, on the weekend of October 8-9 from 10am-4pm. Entry costs $7.
