Stellar line-up set for Melton council’s inaugural literary festival

Budding writers and bookworms can get into the minds of their favourite authors at Melton council’s inaugural literary festival.

A range of events will include art exhibitions, indigenous storytimes and drama performances at the 12-day Write On. Read On. Melton City Word Fest when it kicks off on Saturday, August 13.

The Dressmaker author Rosalie Ham will speak at Melton library on Saturday, August 20, while Letters from the Inside author John Marsden will speak and sign books at the Caroline Springs library on Wednesday, August 24.

Melton mayor Kathy Majdlik says the literary festival will be a celebration of books, the arts and creative processes.

“It showcases some of the best writers, illustrators and storytellers from our community and beyond,” Cr Majdlik said.

“[It] is destined to become a community favourite on council’s annual events calendar.”

The festival’s short-story competition will be launched on Monday, August 15, at presentations to 2015 competition winners.

All festival events will be free, but bookings are essential.
