Melton West craftaholic to exhibit at the Craft and Quilt Fair in Melbourne

Teresa McLeod is combining her love of crafting and comics to start a pop culture store.

The Melton West woman describes her Docklands-based Heroes and Villains Showcase store as a mix of craft, games and comics.

“I wanted to create an experience,” she said. “My husband had a business that sold licensed T-shirts, and I’d travelled to America a couple of times to have a look at what the trend was.

“All we were doing was discounting – there’s no real value in discounting. America was basing everything on an experience.”

Ms McLeod said she wanted to appeal to a broader market and encourage young adults to take up quilting and crafting.

“If we ask those under-35, ‘Do you want to learn how to quilt?’, they don’t want to,” she said. “But if you ask them if they would like to learn how to make a Doctor Who quilt, everyone says yes.”

Ms McLeod will showcase her quirky crafts at the Craft and Quilt Fair at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from July 28-31.
