Bread was broken and cultural diversity celebrated at Melton Secondary College last week.
As part of Diversity Week, almost 1000 students experienced the cultures of such countries as Spain, Macedonia, Sudan, Samoa, China and Nepal.
The week was capped with an all-day celebration last Friday in which students “went around the world” tasting different cuisines and watching cooking demonstrations.
Vice-principal Jenny Buckle said there were 26 different languages spoken at the school and the week had been a great opportunity to showcase the school’s diversity.
“We want to show everyone in our community that we’re one big family and that we also want to support anybody who is diverse … We want to make sure everyone feels welcome.”
Ms Buckle said it was important for students to “connect with each other” regardless of race, religion or culture.
