Melton artist Jacqueline Le Souef drew inspiration from the beauty in nature for her latest exhibition, Trees and Things.

A selection of more than 40 acrylic, watercolour, pen, pastel and pencil works form the exhibition at the Melton Library and Learning Hub until June 30.

Le Souef’s subjects for the body of work include scenic, abstract, flowers and animals.

“There’s so many things that inspire me,” she says. “I’ll walk outside and see the autumn leaves and so I’ll take a handful of them with me and paint them.

“The other day I went down to a creek in Melton and took some photos and I went home and painted them.

“I don’t have a main focus in Trees and Things because I paint what I love and whatever I see.”

Le Souef has held more than 20 solo exhibitions and won many prizes.

The self-taught artist once painted a fibreglass elephant for Melbourne Zoo in celebration of the birth of its Malaysian elephant Mali.

She will be conducting in-house painting demonstrations during her Melton exhibition.

The paintings on exhibition are available for purchase with 10 per cent of the proceeds going to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital.
