Melton residents are gearing up to “walk with her’” to help create a safer, more respectful and tolerant community.
Leading up to the Walk With Her early next month, Djerriwarrh Health Services is hosting a series of workshops to help design and make a banner that will be displayed during the event.
The walk will be led by the Melton Women Making It Happen group. Its members are passionate about promoting respect and safety, especially for women and children.
Djerriwarrh chief executive Andrew Freeman said those involved were working for a community free from violence and one in which women could feel free to live safely.
“More than one woman a week is killed in Australia as a result of violence perpetrated by a man,” Mr Freeman said. “Campaigns like [this] are a great opportunity for communities to come together and take action on the issue.”
Noelle Dickson, mother of Sarah Cafferkey who was murdered in 2012, will speak at the event about her experiences.
The next banner-making workshop will be at Bunnings Melton, 149 Barries Road, from 10am-noon on Saturday, February 18.
The Walk With Her will start at 11.40am on Sunday, March 5, at Hannah Watts Park, High Street, Melton.
