When Sam Simmonds watches her son Hunter on a BMX bike, her jaw drops.
At six years of age, Hunter is a master of the sport – he whizzes past, turns several sharp corners and jumps from an eight-metre cliff with a beaming smile on his face.
“It’s such a great sport,” Ms Simmonds says.
Hunter is among dozens of Bacchus Marsh youngsters heading to Bendigo this Friday for the 2016 BMX Victorian School Series competition.
“The kids are having to take the day off school, so they love it,” Ms Simmonds says.
She said all of the racers are part of the Bacchus Marsh BMX Club and have trained hard for the series.
Currently club members have to travel to Darley to train but works are under way to build a new dirt track closer to home which is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
“So all those kids getting a bike for Christmas – they’ll have a dirt track to ride it on.”
