Residents VMCH Providence Aged Care Residence in Bacchus Marsh have not been letting lockdown stop them from enjoying one of their favourite pastimes – music.

As aged care residences are not allowing visitors at this time, that also means that they haven’t been able to welcome performers who put on special shows for residents. Providence is a big fan of live performances, and so its residents have been missing hearing tunes from their younger years.

As it was recently International Music Day, Providence’s wonderful Personal Care Assistant Eleanor offered to put on a special performance to mark the occasion. Eleanor, who has many musical talents, played some old favourites for the residents on the keyboard, double bass, and guitar.

Providence’s Lifestyle Coordinator Annia says music is always something the residents connect with.

“It brings back so many good memories and times of happiness for our residents,” Annia says.

“They had a wonderful time singing along to the lovely melodies, and they were so very thankful and appreciative of Eleanor’s time.”

Providence residents were also treated to a special Zoom performance from the Melbourne Recital Centre, and the Stiletto Sisters, who perform a blend of Hungarian folk, tango and love songs from around the world. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance, and brought back memories, especially for one resident, Teresa, who had a special request of her personal favourite, Blue Moon.

VMCH residences can’t wait to welcome back its families, friends and performers back once again – but in the meantime, they are making sure residents are still able to connect with each other, over shared interests and entertainment.
