Ann and Richard Wright are like two peas in a pod, and have the key to a long-lasting marriage.
“There are no secrets,” Mr Wright says. “We agree on most things. If she says we’re having fish-and-chips, we’re having fish-and-chips, and that’s it.”
The Melton South couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last Thursday. Letters from the Queen, Prime Minister, Governor-General, Premier and Melton MP are on display on their mantelpiece, testimonies to their “diamond anniversary”.
Their love, respect and admiration for each other is obvious; their stories are not of hardships endured, but of the undying commitment they made to each other on July 16, 1955.
“Ann’s a very loving young lady, and she remembers things that I forget,” Richard says.
What’s Ann’s favourite thing about Richard? “He rarely stops me doing anything, and I do appreciate it.”
“I can’t stop her,” interjects Richard.
