The courtyard at Pentland Primary School is being transformed by the wonders of water.
Western Water’s Schools Water Efficiency Program, sponsored by the state government, has been rolled out to the Darley school and is a big bit, according to principal Andrew Harrison.
Pupils from prep to grade 2 are given the chance to learn about the importance of saving water and staying hydrated.
“We’ve planted a small orchard as a result of the program and been able to put sprinklers in our courtyards,” Mr Harrison said.
The three-year program also involves schools installing data loggers on their water meters that send information to a website, allowing them to monitor water use and detect and fix leaks.
Schools are also equipped with curriculum resources to help educate students about efficient water use.
Western Water customer and relations manager Greg Holt encouraged more schools to contact them.
“This program is a great way to educate our future water-savers and help schools save water and money,” he said.
