It’s not every day you get to shave your teacher’s bushy beard.
But Kurunjang Secondary College students have spent the past month gearing up for the big snip.
Last Thursday, students shaved their teachers’ heads and beards in front of the entire school to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Event co-organiser Daniel Homburg said the World’s Greatest Shave day was about raising awareness of leukaemia, as well as funds for the foundation.
The impact of the disease was brought home to students with the diagnosis of a former student.
“Kids don’t realise anything about the disease until it hits home,” Mr Homburg said.
“So when they realised how important this cause was, it made them think about it more.”
Mr Homburg said it was great to see the whole school come together for one of their peers and get behind the fundraiser.
And while it was the school’s senior students who pushed for the event, the juniors were just as eager to volunteer their time and jump on board.
The school raised more than $3000.
