Kurunjang puplis celebrate multiculturalism

School uniforms were left hanging in wardrobes last week when Kurunjang Secondary College students donned the clothing of their cultures instead.

Students celebrated their diversity through traditional clothing last Thursday when the college hosted a multicultural activities day.

Scones, cupcakes and meringues baked by the students were served during morning tea. Performing arts students put on a number of shows, including Aboriginal dance, and there were art workshops.

Humanities leader David Gorton said the day’s activities were great ways of recognising cultural identities and breaking down the idea of borders.

“It’s important to understand that cultural diversity leads to excellence in the school,” Mr Gorton said.

“It’s a case of recognising that we are all very different. It’s about celebrating everyone’s skills and working towards the idea of excellence and success.”
