An anger-management course has been set up in Melton to help the town’s men.

The Men’s Anger Network (MAN) was formed by the Melton Baptist Church to address a need for anger management in the community.

Pastor Albert Peck said he hoped the network could help “angry men become men of peace”.

“Many of these men have suffered and inflicted suffering on others and have experienced a great sense of loss due to an inability to deal with their anger,” Mr Peck said. “Most men with unhealthy anger-related issues weren’t modelled healthy ways of dealing with and expressing anger, and as a result the cycle continues from one generation to the next.”

The 10-week course, which will start next month, will look into what anger means, why people are “addicted” to unhealthy anger, whether anger can be “righteous”, how to move forward and what it means to be a man.

Mr Peck said the course was developed by men who were attending regular support meetings at the church to deal with their anger.

“This time has seen some amazing growth and healing occur in these men and within their families,” he said. “The course being offered … has been developed by these men for other men in the area to find support and help.”

A ‘healing’ weekend has been organised as part of the course. A dinner and introduction session will be held on Tuesday, October 6, from 6.30pm at the church, corner of Coburns Road and West Melton Drive.
