Speedboats ready to hit Melton Reservoir again

One of Australia’s biggest speedboat races is back on Melton Reservoir this weekend.

Organisers of the Melton Gold Cup meeting expect more than 5000 people will attend each of the two days of racing.

Melbourne Runabout and Speedboat Club secretary Natasha Heffernan says 60 boats will compete this year.

Three-time winner Robert Psaila will make a comeback in the main race, where speeds can reach 230km/h.

Other races will include a Formula Future for children aged 12-16, and six-litre, 5.2-litre, 4.2-litre and outboard displacement events.

Club member Grant Harrison says the Cup meet is among the top five runabout and speedboat events nationally.
