Dean’s all set for Great Australia Day Swim

Bacchus Marsh’s Dean Kuklinsky, 11 (pictured with Swimland coach Thomas Monaghan), will make a splash in the junior event of Sunday’s Great Australia Day Swim.

Dean and 11 other students will join in the 300-metre race at the Middle Brighton Pier. Monaghan says that while it’s always a challenge to take skills learnt in a pool into open water, he has full confidence in his budding swim stars.

“We train once a week and I try to encourage the kids to set personal goals. I love seeing them develop and beat their ‘bests’ along the way.

Swimming’s such a cultural thing in Australia, and it’s so important to be safe around water. It’s fun, but it can be so dangerous unless you have good water skills.”
