CHBD: Bacchus Marsh thrashes Romsey to secure spot

Bacchus Marsh fortified its standing in the top four with a 33-shot thrashing of Romsey in Central Highlands Bowls division 1 on Saturday.

The 18-106 to 0-73 thrashing puts Bacchus Marsh in the top four by 23 points, its 109 well clear of fifth-placed Kyneton (86) and back within reach of second-placed Woodend (117).

Alan Maher tied as the biggest-winning skip of the week, up by 18 shots against Romsey’s Cam Austin, 29-11.

Dilun Filuk, Justin Webster and Amy Gloury also won their rinks for Bacchus Marsh.

At Kyneton, the fifth-placed home team earned a draw with Woodend, albeit coming away with two points less in the 10-84 to 8-84 result.

Kyneton Golf capitalised on the result with its 14-104 to 4-82 win against Trentham, meaning Golf (108 points) will almost certainly spend the Christmas break in the top four ahead of town rival Kyneton (fifth, 86).

Lancefield also capitalised on Woodend’s draw to open a big gap at the top of the ladder, its 17-109 to 1-92 win against Gisborne boosting it to 131 points, ahead of Woodend on 117.

In metro Saturday pennant, Melton lost no ground on fourth place in spite of its 16-96 to 2-65 defeat against MCC.
