Three men rob elderly couple at knifepoint in Ballan

Police are on the hunt for three men who robbed an elderly Ballan couple at knifepoint last Monday.

The couple were tied up in their Ballan home while three armed robbers stole guns and cash about 9am.

The man and woman, both in their 80s, were in bed when the three men entered their Ballan-Greendale Road property.

It is believed the men, armed with knives, forced their way into the couple’s gun cabinet and stole firearms.

The couple received minor injuries during the incident and were treated by paramedics at the scene.

Police said the couple was then taken to Ballan Hospital as a precaution.

Ballarat police’s Detective Senior Sergeant David Hermit said the robbers were in and out of the house in a short period of time.

“We have no specific description of the vehicle … we’ve been told they left in a dark-coloured sedan,” Detective Senior Sergeant Hermit said.

He said the couple were shaken following the incident.

About three police cars and an ambulance were on the scene about 10am and the Moorabool police crime investigation unit took statements from the couple.

Police investigations are continuing.
