NBN strikes up bandwidth in more areas

THE National Broadband Company has released new maps detailing the expansion of the NBN rollout in Bacchus Marsh.

The map shows changes to the previously announced rollout area and is in line with the company’s commitment to release new information as stages are completed.

The new module covers up to 3000 homes and businesses, a move that has pleased Moorabool mayor Pat Griffin.

“The town is split into three sections and we are happy 7500 of our residents will be covered,” Cr Griffin said.

It may take 12 months from the start of construction before Bacchus Marsh residents and business owners have access to high-speed broadband services.

The release coincided with the council’s approval of an NBN communications tower at Mount Egerton.

The tower, to be built on Water Tank Road East on the outskirts of town, faced opposition from residents worried about negative visual aesthetics, possible health implications and the effect on heritage sites in the area.

Crown Castles Australia, the largest independent tower operator in Australia, agreed to the council’s proposal to alter the tower to a sleeker monopole.

The tower, within 150 metres of the closest property, will have a height of 40 metres and a base of four square metres.

Cr Griffin believes local concerns have been addressed.

“Now that the company has started to inform the community on the benefits of the NBN, most seem happy with the idea of faster connection.” he said.

The council also approved another NBN tower for Clarendon Lal Lal Road in Lal Lal with a slight modification.
