Melton wises up on water with $40m worth of recycling infrastructure added

Melton is on its way to becoming the most water-wise shire in Australia, with more than $40 million in recycled water infrastructure newly added to existing pipelines.

Western Water last month completed a $1.4 million, 2.1-kilometre class A recycled water main alongside Exford Road in Melton South.

It will supply recycled water to 5500 homes to be built in Toolern.

“Residents will use recycled water for flushing toilets, washing cars, watering gardens, and a range of other uses,” Western Water managing director John Wilkinson said.

“We are also investigating other measures such as stormwater harvesting and reuse.”

A new 2.6-kilometre drinking water main was also completed last month, connecting Toolern to the Melton supply.
