A KANGAROO was left to die in Blackwood after being shot with three metal-tipped arrows.
The roo, with its baby joey inside, was found by a local resident outside a Blackwood property on Golden Point Road on Wednesday just before 6pm.
Manfred Zabinaskas from Five Freedoms Animal Rescue said the scene was ‘‘horrific’’.
‘‘The poor thing had been shot in the head, one went through the lower abdomen and one in the leg.
‘‘Somebody shot it with the intent to kill, proper hunting arrows were used.
‘‘They were either trying to kill it for pet food, or just for the pleasure of killing another animal.
‘‘The head shot should have been a lethal shot, it entered at the back of the head and nearly came through the jaw.
‘‘The roo was still mobile, the arrows were bumping up against the poor joey. We had to euthanise the roo, the poor Joey is now an orphan.’’
