THE 40th anniversary of the Canberra tent embassy was the focus of a flag-raising ceremony in Melton marking last week’s National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week.
Celebrating the shire’s indigenous population, the ceremony featured traditional dancers and an art exhibition.
Mayor Justin Mammarella said the ceremony reflected the council’s commitment to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
