Parked cars tempt thieves

POLICE are investigating incidents of parked cars being broken into by thieves.

They stole a pair of Oakley sunglasses valued at more than $900 and a remote control from an unlocked vehicle parked on Carissa Road, Brookfield.

A jack-hammer and grinder valued at $600 were stolen from a ute parked in Gallery Avenue, Melton West.

In Melton South, thieves stole a black trailer with a cage from a nature strip in Creek Street.

Police statistics show thefts from cars are on the rise in Melton, climbing 23per cent from 269 in 2010 to 413 last year.
