YOUNG Ballan motorcycle rider Matthew Barton’s strong form continues in his first year as a senior racer. Barton finished fifth in the second round of the Victorian road racing championships at Broadford on July 7-8.
Racing in the superlites 125cc class, the 16-year-old finished 40 points behind the winner. Barton has already had to earn his stripes this year, recovering from a busted gearbox in the first race of round one and being forced to finish on an old 125cc Yamaha.
“It was about as old as him,” said his father Chris. Barton, who began riding aged five, hopes to spend the next four years in Spain, gaining valuable international experience.
