A COMMITTED Sunbury outfit thrashed Melton by 101 points on Saturday.
The Bloods, who quickly became frustrated, could not catch the Lions, as Sunbury finished the day 21.10 (136) to 5.5 (35).
The Lions had a solid start to set up a 34-point lead at the end of the first quarter with seven goals to Melton’s one.
The Lions’ back six, in particular, were outstanding.
Melton, meanwhile, had few answers. With seven frontline players out, the depleted Bloods were sloppy and undisciplined.

It all got too much for one Melton player, with Jamie Rawlings sent off with a red card in the final term after an altercation with a Lions player. Sunbury brothers Scott and Jamie Lobb were both busy, each playing some tough football and getting a lot of the ball.
Jamie Lobb kicked six goals for the day in addition to racking up numerous possessions.
In his first game back from injury, Simon Clark looked the goods as well.
“I think it was our ‘ins’ such as Clarke, Cameron McCabe (three goals), Xavier Linton (five goals), Greg Hay and James Rizk (three goals) that made a difference,” Sunbury coach Rick Horwood said.
It felt like a more even, more balanced group.
“We hit all our KPIs. We reached all of them today and we haven’t the last two weeks.
“Today we had 80 tackles. For us to get 80 tackles indicates we are working really hard.”
Melton coach Bob Heaney said the loss wasn’t unexpected.
“We had a lot of changes; we made about eight. We had a lot of kids playing, but it was good exposure for them to play against a quality opposition,” he said.
Sunbury has some concerns, though, with an injury to Jay Cheep.
The Lions’ midfielder left the field midway through the match and did not return.
