Melton Vietnam vets step in to fund pupils’ fruit fix

Fresh fruit will be on the menu each Friday for Coburns Primary School pupils like Jayden and Lauren (pictured) thanks to the Melton Vietnam Veterans Association.

MVVA presented the school with $1000 for the weekly menu.

Vice-president John Hodges (also pictured, with Pastor Gary Russell) says children are “stoked about fresh fruit Friday”. Mr Hodges says MVVA members felt it was important to give back to the community that wholeheartedly supports its members. “We wanted to do something for the children.” On Saturday, the association commemorated the Vietnam Veterans Day and 50th anniversary of the arrival of Australian troops in Vietnam. Mr Hodge said thousands of residents gathered at the Melton Cenotaph to pay tribute.
