What’s the bigger sacrifice – giving up food or social media? Bacchus Marsh Grammar students found out last weekend, when more than 80 youngsters supported World Vision’s 40 Hour Famine.
Year12 students Nicole Smith, Pat Davey and Eloise Derby gave up food for nearly two days, while year7 student Grace Patterson (pictured, second from left) avoided technology in a bid to help children in Ethiopia.
Eloise had been ‘training’ in the lead-up to the famine. “I prepared myself through delaying some meals instead of eating when I first started to feel hungry.” Pat said giving up the grub was all in the mind. “It’s easier once you put yourself in the mindset that people go without food for weeks, as opposed to 40 hours.” Nicole is an experienced hand, having completed the famine four times. “I find the first few hours easier than the last few hours,” she said.
