BFL: Cobras hang on to pip Ballarat

BACCHUS Marsh made Ballarat work hard but ultimately couldn’t deny the Swans a win to seal their top-six status in Ballarat Football League at the weekend.

The game, moved to Melton Recreation Reserve due to flooding of Maddingley Park, ended in a 10.14 (74) to 9.8 (62) win to Ballarat.

Bacchus Marsh kicked the first and only goal of the first quarter in a period where they stopped the Ballarat run and put pressure on them to hamper their ball use.

However, all this changed in the second term and Ballarat gained control and made it look easy in the tough conditions.

The Swans kicked four goals to one in the quarter with Matt Dawson outstanding off half-back and Ash Baker gathering plenty of the ball through the middle.

Tyson Shea was again leading the way for the Cobras.

Even though the scoreboard said the margin was only a couple of goals at half-time, Ballarat had the game on its terms.

With goals to Nick Garner and Braeden Deary in the third term and the Swans out to a five-goal lead at three-quarter time, it appeared to be game over. Bacchus Marsh had other ideas, though.

The Cobras came out and kicked six goals in the final term after recording only three to three-quarter time.

Power forward Pasi Schawlger kicked two last-term goals after being kept quiet previously.

Ultimately it was the siren that beat the Cobras.
