MELTON has bookended its long Ballarat Football League season with a morale boosting 35-point victory over Sebastopol.
The Bloods earnt their third victory of the season on Saturday, defeating Sebastopol 9.10 (64) to 4.5 (29) at MacPherson Park to end their season on a winning note.

“We have finished off well. It was great for the boys to enjoy a win at home,” Melton coach Bob Heaney said.
“It has been a tough year because we didn’t make the most of our chances earlier in the year.
“We beat Darley first round and we were up against Bacchus Marsh before losing it. We were also right in it against Lake Wendouree.
“You lose a couple of close ones and when you are trying to break a losing culture, which we have at the moment, it might have done a lot for self belief. We’re still learning how to win them.”
After a tight first quarter, Melton started taking its chances on the scoreboard in the second quarter to establish a 27-point advantage at half-time.
There was a minor Sebastopol revival in the third quarter, the Kookaburras closing within 15-points at the final change, before the home team sealed the match with the wind in the last quarter with three unanswered goals.
Heaney said the Bloods would continue to look to the future.
“If you look at the year as a whole, we know where our list is at. Maybe if you look at what Ballarat was doing five years ago I think we’re trying to do the same things,” he said.
“We’ve done our contracts and everyone has recommitted. We just have to bring in a few experienced blokes over the top.
“All the guys we’ve brought in this year are under-25 and it’s still about building the list with players who will be with us for four, five or six years.”
