RDNL: Cats put paw on grand final spot

MACEDON kept its upper hand on Melton Central in Riddell District Netball League A grade with a 14-goal qualifying final win at Kilmore on Saturday.

The Cats moved a step closer to returning to the grand final with the 53-39 win to advance to this weekend’s second semi-final against reigning premier Romsey.

Centrals will have to go the long way though, bumped into a first semi-final against Riddell after the Bombers eliminated Broadford 46-35 on Sunday.

Romsey eliminated Wallan to keep its premiership defence alive, winning 40-21 at Romsey Park.

The Redbacks and Cats will now square off for a grand final berth in a rematch of last year’s decider.

In B grade, Macedon remains on track for back-to-back titles in the division after a one-goal win against Romsey, 29-28. The Cats now face Sunbury Kangaroos in the second semi-final after the Roos defeated Wallan 27-24.

Romsey will look to keep its campaign going against Riddell in the first semi-final after the Bombers eliminated Broadford 26-21.

In C grade, Melton Central’s premiership defence ended at the hands of Macedon with the cats winning 32-29 in the elimination final.

Macedon will now play Broadford in the first semi-final while Sunbury Kangaroos, who defeated Broadford 32-22, will play in the second semi against Riddell after the Bombers beat Romsey 26-21.In Bendigo Netball League A grade, Gisborne’s season will continue for at least another week after a two-point elimination final win against Golden Square on Saturday night, 55-53.

The Bulldogs advance to the first semi-final against Kangaroo Flat this weekend.

Gisborne was eliminated in A reserves 50-43 by Kangaroo Flat and lost the qualifying final in 17-and-under to Kangaroo Flat 43-32.

It means Gisborne will play Castlemaine in this weekend’s first semi-final.

Kyneton’s one team flying the flag in finals was eliminated on Saturday as its B grade netball team lost 57-54 to Kangaroo Flat.
