Broadband rollout gathers speed across Bacchus Marsh

THE National Broadband Network is expected to be fully rolled out in Bacchus Marsh within 18 months.

Service to the high-speed internet network is being provided across three areas, covering about 9000 homes and businesses.

Work began in the second area in July, while construction on the other two are expected to start this month and next.

An NBN Co spokesman said the company had to finalise the geographical boundaries of the network and determine the most efficient order to build coverage areas.

Contractor Transfield will complete on-site surveys to plan how the network will be built in each street, including an assessment of existing infrastructure like pits and underground pipes.

“This can take several months but is an essential part of the process,” the spokesman said.

“As the NBN is switched on progressively in each area, residents and businesses in those areas will be able to contact their telephone or internet service provider to arrange their services to be delivered over the NBN.”

Ballan will eventually be served by the network, however the town was not included in a three-year rollout plan.

NBN Co will update the plan on an annual basis up to June 2016. Details: nbnco.com.au.
