Train passengers delayed

Ballarat line passengers were held up for nearly three hours last Tuesday after a train struck a fallen tree near Gordon. A V/Line spokesman said under-carriage electrics were damaged when the train hit the tree about 6am. Buses were unable to move passengers as the train stopped on an embankment. It’s believed the tree fell during strong winds. The train was able to move off again at 8.50am.

New skills for carers

Aged-care providers in Bacchus Marsh will be able to hone their skills thanks to a $400,000 federal grant. The funding will allow Catholic Homes for the Elderly, operator of Bacchus Marsh’s Providence Hostel, to teach aged-care workers to be more flexible in adapting to the needs of residents. “The ageing of the population is changing the skill requirements of aged-care workers as older people have increasingly complex needs,” Ballarat Labor MP Catherine King said.

Candidates, on your marks
