Pap tests hours extended

Westcare Medical Centre in Melton West is extending its free pap test services until next month. Extra funding from PapScreen Victoria means the clinic will operate for extended hours on September 24 (5-7pm) and October 1 (5-7pm). Records reveal that only 53 per cent of women are having regular pap tests. PapScreen Victoria has urged all women to book appointments every two years. More details: 9747 5800.

Stevens to rock Djerriwarrh

Former Noiseworks and INXS singer Jon Stevens will headline the 2012 Djerriwarrh Festival. This year’s event at Melton Recreation Reserve on November 9 and 10 will celebrate 150 years of local government. A High Street parade will feature floats showcasing Melton’s history from 1862 to today. Learn to write short stories

Western suburbs novelist Amra Pajalic (pictured) is hosting free writing workshops for Melton youth. Ms Pajalic says it’s a great chance for writers to learn new techniques and work towards completing a short story for Melton’s annual short story competition. Quit the car, walk to work

Melton residents are being encouraged to leave their car at home as part of Walk to Work Day on September 28. The annual event is aimed at getting people to include regular walking in their daily routine. Details: 9747 7200 or walk.com.au.

New place for Scout group

The 3rd Melton Scout Group’s cash-a-can facility is relocating today to Woodgrove shopping centre’s car park, at the back of Nando’s restaurant.
