BACCHUS Marsh’s Blacksmith Forge and Bookbarn has unearthed a rare artefact. Volunteer Emma Robinson (pictured) recently found an intricately embroidered silk postcard which had been left inside a first-edition book written by Charles Dickens.
The postcard dates from World War I. Embroidered cards were introduced in Paris in 1900 and became popular keepsakes for troops and their loved ones.
Meanwhile, an exhibition at the forge on September 28 and 29 will display a selection of pre-World War II toys. Childhood Days is open from 10am-4pm.
