Diggers Rest man to stand trial

A Diggers Rest man, accused of hitting and killing a man after an alleged roadside argument in Marong, will stand trial in the Supreme Court on February 11. Daniel Carletti was first charged with culpable driving and failing to stop after an accident on New Year’s Day last year. The charge has now been upgraded to manslaughter. The crash critically injured a 41-year-old Sunbury man, who later died. Carletti will stand trial in the Supreme Court on February 11.

New car impounded

A Caroline Springs man had his new Toyota sports car impounded after being caught travelling almost 80km/h above the speed limit. Police said the man, 49, was doing 178km/h in a 100 zone on Plumpton Road on September 15. He will be charged on summons. Almost 90 cars have been impounded in Melton this year.

Explosion lands man in hospital

A Melton man, 18, is in hospital with a serious hand injury after a handmade explosive device blew up on September 15. Police say investigations are continuing.

Car stolen from Melton station

Police are seeking information from the public after a car was stolen from Melton railway station on September 18. The white 2002 Mitsubishi Magna was taken between 8.30am and 5pm.

Taser gun threat charge

A Melton man, 30, will be summonsed to face a number of charges after threatening to use a Taser gun on another Melton resident on September 14.

Lakeside Live becomes Summersault

Caroline Springs’ Lakeside Live community festival is changing its name to Summersault. Melton Council last week announced Summersault would be held at Caroline Springs Recreation Reserve on February 23 next year. A spokesman said the new site would improve crowd safety and comfort, and reduce the need for road closures. Mayor Justin Mammarella said the most popular elements of the event would not change.
