Guns taken, no questions asked

Melton residents are being urged to surrender unwanted or illegal firearms and weapons to police — “no questions asked” — as part of a two-month statewide amnesty. People should ring their local station before taking items in.

Vandals hit school buildings

Police need information after vandals daubed buildings with graffiti at Melton Special School in Coburns Road between September 21 and 27.

Thief takes trail bikes

Police are looking for a man who stole two trail bikes from a garage in Hume Avenue, Melton South. A resident woke at 5.30am on October 1 and disturbed a man about 175cm wearing a dark beanie.

No name, so man to be charged

A Werribee man, 30, will be charged on summons after refusing a breath test and failing to give his name and address. He was stopped on the wrong side of High Street, Melton, about 6.15pm on September 29. Police said the man’s car could not be moved as it had a burnt-out clutch. A preliminary breath test was positive, but when the man was taken to Melton police station he refused to take another test or give his details. He was kept in custody until sober and his identity was established. He will face Bacchus Marsh Magistrates Court.

Questions wanted for experts

Melton resident Annette Langlands is calling for viewer questions for her new Channel 31 TV show Weekly with Annette. Ms Langlands plans to put questions to local doctors, veterinarians and gardening experts. The show will focus on Melton and Bacchus Marsh, but Ms Langlands hopes to branch out to other communities. Smart meters up for discussion
