Man ‘guilty’ of hindering police

POLICE were bombarded with stones and verbally abused by a local resident during a violent clash in Ballan, a court has heard.

Wesley Meech, 35, lashed out at police when they came to his home late at night on February 18 over reports that another man had been acting violently towards Meech and his children.

Ballarat Magistrates Court last week heard the “other man” hid in a nearby paddock when police arrived but was quickly located and handcuffed.

Magistrate Michelle Hodgson fined Meech $500 with conviction after he pleaded guilty to hindering police; throwing stones to injure, endanger or damage; and behaving in an offensive manner in a public place.
