Greendale grassfire: 14 tankers sent to battle quick-spreading blaze

FOURTEEN fire tankers from 10 surrounding fire brigades were called to a small grass fire in Greendale at 2.30pm on Friday.

It took crews about three hours to contain the blaze, which burned through almost five hectares.

A CFA spokesperson said the cause of the blaze at Vodka Track was unknown.

A large contingent was called due to the fast-spreading nature of grass fires.

‘‘We sent a large team in to hit it hard early, luckily no damage was caused to any property,’’ the spokesperson said.
