Worker critical after mushroom factory mulching horror

A 25-year-old female factory worker is in a critical condition in The Alfred hospital after a horrific accident in Parwan on Tuesday afternoon.

Bacchus Marsh fire brigade’s Tony Prowse said the mushroom factory employee sustained horrific injuries to her head, chest, upper and lower body after being reportedly trapped in a mulching machine at about 4pm.

He said CFA crews from Bacchus Marsh, Parwan and Eynesbury and the SES were prepared for the ‘‘confronting scene’’ after the woman was freed by her work mates.

‘‘There was a lot of blood, it was quite a horrific scene. As far as injuries to people I’ve seen, it’s right up there.

‘‘We were fully prepared to assist but there’s no time for shock. You just get in there and do your job.

‘‘She was conscious when she left.’’

An Alfred hospital spokesperson said the woman was in a critical but stable condition.

Worksafe Victoria are investigating the accident.
