Here’s looking at views

Water, sky and earth merge in a note-perfect panorama at Pykes, an appealing property of 4081 square metres in the gated community of Pykesview estate.

At the bottom of sweeping lawns down to the tree line, the Pykes Creek Reservoir is spectacularly framed in picture windows all along the back of the house: a design triumph.

And the shared common grounds within the estate are pretty special, particularly the rotunda perched near the creek.

The three-bedroom clinker-brick house has some Victorian flourishes such as ceiling rosettes, bay window, deep skirts and decorative cornices but also harmoniously moves into timber pitched ceiling with exposed beams, ‘statement’ roman blinds and slate and parquetry flooring.

The main bedroom at one end has two sets of mirrored wardrobes and an en suite with cedar-lined ceiling, oak vanity unit and heat lamp.

Other bedrooms are down a carpeted hallway near the main bathroom (similarly styled to the smaller), separate toilet and laundry with storage.

An elegant space, the carpeted step-down lounge room (with step-up study nook) has a Clean Air wood heater set against brickwork flanked by glass display shelves.

Next to a family-meals zone, the kitchen has lots of oak cupboards, granite benches, a pantry, concealed microwave nook, dishwasher, gas cook-top and wall oven.

And the views from a picture window behind the sink are sure to distract from mundane tasks.

The back and side verandahs are perfect relaxation spots, as is the flagged courtyard near the front door where a small pond and surrounding greenery beneath a pergola has its own micro-climate. A barbecue is nearby.

This touch of waterfront magic will weave a spell on many — and, surprisingly, it’s just moments from the Calder Freeway.
