Drivers at the Crossroads
Police will be out in force during the Easter long weekend as part of Operation Crossroads with increased presence on major roads including the Melton and Western highways and Calder Freeway. Melton’s Leading Senior Constable Allan Edwards said too many motorists overextended themselves on holiday weekends. “There’s a spike in road trauma every year across the state at this time of year, partly due to people travelling further distances.”
Mum’s away, so burglars prey
Burglars broke into a house in Riddle Drive, Melton, on March 18 and took a telephone and cash from a kitchen bench while the occupant was taking her child to school. Police said houses close to lanes and reserves were often a target for burglars.
