Police investigate ‘‘out of control’’ Moorabool council meeting

BACCHUS Marsh police have confirmed they are investigating a recent ‘‘out of control’’ Moorabool council meeting.

Central to the investigation will be charges pressed by a Maddingly couple who claim their neighbour breached an intervention order by addressing them at the public meeting.

Leading Senior Constable Paul Menz said police would interview councillors after the Weekly reported Godwin Aquilina abused council and members of the public, including his neighbours Debra and Bruce Bullock, on April 3.

Mr Aquilina became irritated over the conditions to a permit allowing him to keep his pet ram Jackie Chan at his Love Close property.

Leading Senior Constable said the main area of concern was the potential breach of the intervention order against Mr Aquilina, which prevents he and the Bullocks from talking to each other.

“We’re also looking into other behavioural offences stemming from the night, and other incidents at their respective properties.‘‘It’s clear there was a lot of fear and distress at this meeting.

“We will be talking to all councillors about what transpired on the night.’’

As part of the investigation, police have requested The Weekly make a witness statement and provide its tape recording of the meeting.

Moorabool council said it would not review its security practices.
