REIGNING premiers Macedon scored a decisive 14-point victory over Romsey in the Riddell District Netball League A grade grand final rematch on Saturday.
Macedon won by just three points in the decider last September, but this time were the better team in a 50-36 win.
Only in the second quarter did Romsey look dangerous. After trailing by six points at quarter-time, the Redbacks outscored Macedon 13-6 to bring the margin back to a point, but the Cats ran away in the second half.
Amy Smith (33) and Karli Denzel (17) did the scoring for Macedon, while Romsey skipper Hope Hamilton led the way for her team with 26 goals.
Macedon netball operations manager Trevor Toholka said the win, as well as wins in B and C grades, showed the Cats would be a force again.
“It was a good test for us to step up today given we played them in the grand final last year,” he said. “It was a good measure for us and we’re happy with where we sit.”
In other games, Sunbury belted Rockbank 55-16 on Anzac Day with Kila Elavo hitting 36 goals, while Christine Harris scored 58 goals as Riddell destroyed Woodend-Hesket 80-36.
This round’s football and netball fixtures: Woodend-Hesket v Sunbury, Romsey v Melton Centrals, Macedon v Riddell, Rupertswood vs Wallan, Kilmore v Lancefield, Diggers Rest v Rockbank, Broadford bye.
