A 48-year-old Bacchus Marsh woman died at the scene of a collision in Balliang East on Wednesday afternoon.
Police believe a 64-year-old Toolern Vale woman was travelling north on Bacchus Marsh-Geelong Road about 2.30pm when she lost control of the vehicle and veered onto the south-bound lane, colliding with the Bacchus Marsh woman’s car.
Her 21-year-old son was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and is in a serious condition having sustained head injuries and multiple fractures.
The Toolern Vale woman was airlifted to The Alfred hospital, where she later died.
Bacchus SES unit controller Bill Robson said 10 SES volunteers attended the scene.
‘‘We don’t want them attending these kind of things,’’ he said.
‘‘I can’t stress how important it is that people drive safely at the correct speed, as roads can be slippery at this time of year.’’
