Bacchus Marsh CFA happy to make tough call

DIRT, water and hard knocks won’t be enough to derail the work of Bacchus Marsh CFA volunteers, thanks to the donation of 16 “tough phones”.

The durable devices, designed to withstand water, dust and shocks, were handed over by Western Water, depot crew members of which used them previously.

“When we upgraded the crews’ technology, the old phones were left looking for a home, and the CFA is the perfect recipient,” Western Water general manager Peter Donlon said.

CFA volunteer Vince Vella, also a Western Water depot crew member, said the new phones would be used by volunteers and would work in conjunction with the CFA’s radio system.

“Having more than one source of communication can make a huge difference,” he said.

CFA first lieutenant Tony Prowse said the phones would be a great help.

“It’s a huge help to a brigade that relies on funding for purchases of equipment like this,” he said.

Mr Prowse said any unallocated phones would be offered to other local brigades.
