Rail works to disrupt Ballarat line services

MELTON and Moorabool V/Line passengers can expect disruptions to Ballarat line services until July 14.

Buses will replace trains during the school holidays because of works on the regional rail link between Deer Park and Southern Cross station.

Ballarat line works will include resurfacing and realignment of the track between Rockbank and Ballarat, reconstruction of track formation at Ballan and replacement of more than 1000 tonnes of ballast between Ballarat and Rockbank.

Temporary timetables feature a mix of express, semi-express and stopping-all-stations coaches.

V/Line chief executive Theo Taifalos said the two-week closure would mean fewer disruptions in the long term. “By scheduling our work to coincide with regional rail link construction, V/Line can minimise the number of interruptions to train services that would normally occur at weekends over several months.”
