Ballarat NL: Bacchus Marsh seventh after cliffhanger

BACCHUS Marsh’s hopes of finals action in Ballarat Netball League A-grade suffered a major blow on Saturday as the Cobras lost to Sebastopol by four goals.

The 47-43 defeat leaves Bacchus Marsh (4-7) seventh on the ladder.

Sebastopol led from start to finish and held on in the final quarter as Bacchus Marsh rallied from 14 down at the last change.

Darley is also running out of chances to turn its season around after visiting Sunbury left with a 31-15 win.

Darley started with Olivia Aughton and Elyce Carlyle in defence, the move paying early dividends as the Devils were within six points of the Lions at half-time. But a lack of attacking production left Darley unable to stick with the Lions in the third quarter as Sunbury slogged out a 31-15 win.

At Melton Recreation Reserve, Melton South’s winless season continued with a one-goal loss to Redan.

In other games, North Ballarat City beat Lake Wendouree 43-34 and East Point beat Ballarat 55-26.

In Riddell District Netball League A-grade, Riddell Bombers confirmed their status as the main challenger to Melton Centrals after a five-goal win against Romsey.

Centrals (12-0) had the bye and remain top of the league by a game from Riddell (11-1) after the Bombers’ 50-45 win.

At Rockbank, visiting Ruperts-wood moved a step closer to finals with a 50-26 win.

In other games, Diggers Rest lost 49-14 to Lancefield, Woodend-Hesket beat Broadford 38-36 and Macedon beat Wallan 79-21.
