Ballarat FL: Haby’s strike hurts Melton

THINGS are about to get a whole lot tougher for Melton after losing spearhead Darren Haby to suspension ahead of this weekend’s showdown with town rival Melton South.

John Prudek will be heading to the tribunal tonight, while the Bloods have until midday tomorrow to confirm whether they will request a formal investigation into an incident that left another key player concussed on Saturday.

Haby, the Bloods’ leading goal-kicker and primary target in the forward 50m, took a one-week set penalty for striking after getting his marching orders late in the third term against Bacchus Marsh on Saturday.

Haby has kicked 26 goals, almost a quarter of the Bloods’ total score this season.

Prudek was booked and sent off in the second quarter for bumping or making forceful front-on contact.

Ballarat Football League games are filmed and the video could prove crucial in Prudek’s attempt to avoid suspension.

There was some angst in the Melton camp on Saturday about an incident that left Tate McCutcheon concussed and with a suspected jaw injury early in the third quarter.

The Bloods have until midday tomorrow to confirm whether they will request an official investigation from the league.
