MELTON has one foot in the Big V men’s division 2 grand final after an 11-point win against Keysborough Cougars in game one of the semi-final series on Saturday night.
The Thoroughbreds opened a double-figure lead at quarter time at Springers Leisure Centre and kept the Cougars at bay thereafter in the 91-80 win.
Jeff Crowe was the stand-out with 36 points for Melton, shooting 13 of 21 from the field and a deadly five of 10 from three-point range.
Maverick Clissold (16 points) and Cameron McCallum (15) were other leading scorers.
The second game of the series will start at 7.30pm Saturday at Melton Indoor Recreation Centre. Game three, if required, will tip off at 1pm on Sunday.
