MELTON is one win away from clinching Big V men’s division 2 after
an eight-point win against Keilor in game one of the best-of-three
series on Saturday night.
A boilover was on the cards with Keilor up by five at
three-quarter time, only for the Thunder to shoot one of 18 from the
field in the last quarter as Melton swept to a 54-46 win.
An off shooting night from Melton put Keilor in control early as the Thunder led by 10 points at quarter time.
Cameron McCallum led the Thoroughbreds with a double-double (12
points, 14 rebounds) while regular contributors Paul Ross (two of 10,
zero from five from three-point range) and Jeff Crowe (two of 13, zero from six) both had off nights.
Normally deadly from three-point range, the Breds were two of 20
outside the arc on a night the team shot just 27 percent from the field.
But winning idespite the off night means Melton is now on the
verge of taking out the premiership, with tip-off for game two of the
grand final series at Melton Indoor Recreation Centre at 7pm this
Saturday night.
The venue is expected to reach maximum capacity, with more than
300 fans expected to fill the building. Game three, if required, will
tip off at 2pm Sunday at the same venue.
